Sometimes writing is all about finding the perfect spot…a place that’s quiet enough to focus…but not so quiet you can’t find your thoughts. Does that make sense?
I’m lucky to work at a job where I get every other Friday off. Yes, we work an extra hour every day to earn that day off, so it’s not really a ‘free’ day…but it’s nice! So, on those Fridays I try to focus on writing. Other days I have to squeeze it in when and where I can…early mornings, late nights, and the occasional lunch break. But every other Friday, I pack my backpack and head to the library! I have a favorite table. If I get there just as the doors open, I can almost always get it. This spot has a huge wall mural of a library scene and it’s actually a puzzle. It’s so cool and you could easily get lost looking at all the little mini scenes if you weren’t as disciplined as me (haha!!). The outlet is in the right place, no other people too close by, and I have a good view of the featured books shelf when I want to wander š Today they had a gardening display!
But occasionally, the quiet is too much. Fun (not so fun) fact: I have tinnitus. When it’s really quiet, sometimes that’s distracting. So today when I got a little hungry, I moved to my favorite pizza place, Rosati’s! Here, there’s music, the tv’s are on, and people are talking and laughing and enjoying their Friday afternoon. And somehow, today, that’s exactly what I need!
So, I will sit here and eat my pizza and french fries (because pizza always goes with fries!) , people watch for ideas, and try to finish up my edits. This next book goes to my editor for a manuscript evaluation on April 3rd, so it’s crunch time! Happy Friday everyone š
